Arise! was commissioned for Budd Kirby, choir director and organist at St. Martin's Episcopal Church in Charlotte, NC, on the occasion of his thirtieth year at the church.  As the piece was meant to be a surprise to him, the commission called for a simple, short anthem that the choir could teach itself without their director.  Ideal for beginner or amateur choirs looking for something a little different, this piece is an excellent addition to services of any Christian denomination.
