Salve Regina is a setting of the Latin prayer of the same name. This setting is big and bold, intended to represent a more exciting worshipfulness, rather than an introspective one. With an emphasis on the idea of praising the Virgin Mary as a Queen, this setting is fanfare-like in its recognition of Mary as holy royalty. A good opener with some tricky harmonic shifts and high range for sopranos and tenors.
premiered by University of Louisville Cardinal Singers, Nov 2018 under the direction of Kent Hatteberg
