In Civitate David is a setting of the verse from Luke spoken to the shepherds, "for unto you this day is born in the city of David a savior who is Christ the Lord". Using the Latin translation of that verse, a slow, mystical, light-filled scene is painted of that night, building to a swirling of the text to a climax on the word "Salvator", or "Savior". Scored for TTBB with divisi, moderately extended ranges in both high and low directions as well as the rhythmic independence of the penultimate section can add a bit of difficulty to this otherwise fairly straightforward work.
